Back Story and Strategy: 

The client was interested in applying for higher-level executive positions. He provided an existing resume with many issues. It was unflattering, outdated, had grammatical and formatting errors, and required restyling. I revitalized his resume and updated his LinkedIn profile to attract recruiters while maintaining his privacy as a passive job seeker. He discovered an ideal VP job posting, and I produced a tailored cover letter. I later worked with him for two hours to hone his interviewing skills. Even though he often interviewed candidates as a Director, he wasn’t accustomed to being on the other side of the table very often and wanted to ensure he optimized his chances. Finally, I wrote a thank-you letter as a follow-up to the interview.

Results: 

The client called to thank me for my work and informed me that he was the successful candidate for the executive position with a much higher compensation package in a rewarding role with a larger organization. He mentioned that the human resource manager told him that his resume was exceptional and that he was amazing in the interview. I started the resume rewriting process and realized during the initial interview that the client should apply for a leadership role instead of a lateral move to increase her compensation and job satisfaction. Therefore, I redirected her to search for leadership job postings and met with her in a second session to allow her to broaden her job search. To ensure the resume was versatile, I tailored and redesigned it to be appropriate for management or lateral positions by creating an attractive and accomplishment-focused document while emphasizing her leadership qualities and background. In addition, I wrote a customized, strategic cover letter. The client landed an interview within days. I provided one hour of interview coaching and taught her effective interview and confidence-building strategies to ace the interview. Lastly, I wrote one follow-up letter after her interview to provide an advantage over other candidates. 

Results: 

Before my intervention, the client was frustrated about being screened out of many external positions in her field. She hoped to find an employer with a better work-life balance and never thought to apply for a management role. However, with my encouragement and support, she landed the first management position she applied for in another company, significantly increasing her salary.
